Squalls and Rainbows eBook James Richardson

Not necessarily a sugar coated version of the cruising life that will make one run out and buy a vessel to depart off to points unknown - quiet the contrary - a realistic smack in the face that this lifestyle is for very few ppl out there and a GO decision to not be taken lightly. And WTH is up with the skitso lack of chronological consistency in the storytelling? It made it practically impossible to follow along via GoogleMap to better understand the trip, experience & places visited and this was repeated 4-6X throughout the book. I think someone needed an editor’s oversight or more harsh or cruisIng savvy proofreader. Sorry to hear you guys took the bait, but what an incredible series of cruising life experiences you have had that so few will ever comprehend...

Squalls and Rainbows eBook James Richardson Reviews

I don't know of any books out there that sail you through an adventure like this one. I have friends that have made a similar journey, and I have always wanted to take the trip myself. While the format of the book is mostly chronological, I didn't get the sense that it was a log (as one review said). I just thought it was a well written story about their travels through the islands, the people they met, places they saw, and experiences they had. I would think this book is a must read for anyone that is planning to visit these places or any Caribbean islands.
I hope to get to the Bahamas soon. I last sailed there over 25 years ago. Was sorry to see so many changes. This book gave me an idea of what to expect.I thought it was well written and informative. I look forward to reading your next book.
I received this book when it first came out in late 2011. I didn't start reading it until about a year later in mid to late 2012. This was partly because I am neither a sail boat enthusiast nor a big reader of books for pure enjoyment. I was going on a trip and knew I would have some downtime at the airport so I decided to bring the book with me. Needless to say once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I felt like I was actually on the boat with the author. I could taste the food based on the descriptions. I was nervous when the author wrote about certain instances where he felt he was in danger. I was actually traveling with him it was very realistic and fun! After reading the book part of me even would like to go on a sailboat and experience something like what the author has described. If I was a sailor or had interest in sailing I most certainly would read this book as it is more than just the story, but also a roadmap for the pitfalls that could occur if one was going to be on the open waters. It also gives a lot of great information about locations and destinations that should be seen. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading a very descriptive yet entertaining first-hand account of navigating the waters as well as learning about the cultures of the various destinations. I truly can't think of another book that I have read of a non-technical nature that was for pure enjoyment. I am also very excited to know the author has another book that is available and I will now be getting that book. After reading it I will also post a review of that. I want to thank the author for the time, energy and effort put into writing such a book as I know it is not an easy or quick task, but it has brought a lot of enjoyment to me and I am sure many others.

You can ride along with out leaving your bed! Well, James and his wife went many of the same places we went on our boat in their travels. I like his writing style. It is not just a sailing saga, but it gives me the information I need to determine if I want to do a similar trip and what it might be like. Both the highs and the lows. Cruising is like that. There are intense good times and so pretty crappy ones as well. That is what makes it interesting to me.
Worth the time and money to read if you are wanting to know what it is like to live on a boat and make the trip down and back to the Caribbean.
Informative but very depressing, made you not want to go cursing. While they enjoyed much of their adventure, page after page went on described the bad weather conditions, constant breakdowns, etc. We are planning a three month cruise to the Exumas but after reading this book I am having second thoughts.
Not a lot of information, just day after day of bad anchorages, bad weather, and sleepless nights. I can't understand why anyone would want to go cruising after reading this book.
while well written, this is the typical boaters log turned into a book. We went here, we ate this, the weather was..., we waited out bad weather, we fixed this or that. In some books you really feel like you get to know the author and experience the emotions of the cruise. Not this one. I don't agree this is a 5 star cruising book, not at all. On the other hand, if you are planning to cruise the Caribbean, there is lots of specific information in this book that would come in handy for you. The author has a web site you can also check out.
